“I only wanted to love someone. That was all.” A nameless being awakens to the truth that he can no longer be human, yet chases the happiness he has lost the right to possess. “I only wanted to love someone. That was all.”
You are living inside a dream. You love someone, you are loved by someone, and in doing so, you live as a “human being.” But I am different. I have awakened. The moment I realized that I could no longer be human, I still found myself chasing the happiness of being one. Can you imagine the unbearable sorrow of wanting something you have already lost the right to possess? There is a loneliness I could never tell anyone about. But I want to tell it to you. A nameless being, stranded on the boundary between dream and reality, carries with him “the illness called me” and continues to live. This is his confession— a story of a prayer that could not even become love. The confession of a nameless being who was born an “outsider,” a “freak,” from the very beginning. Awakening of “The Neither Side” in Boundary Between Dreams and Reality. is a long-form independent work by MASAMUNE KITANO, blending manga, illustration, literary prose, philosophical monologue, and surreal imagery into a single narrative.
